Classic Plays Staged At Theatre Fest

The Department of Language and Culture, in association with Shudrka Hyderabad organized a two-day Theatre Festival at Ravindra Bharathi. On the first day, they showcased a Hindi play, Kissa Andher Nagri Ka, written by Bharatendu Harishchandra. The play is about a disciple, who despite the many warnings of his teacher ventures into a dark town ruled by a very foolish ruler. In this town, he discovers that the inhabitants are equally foolish. An incident follows a bizarre blame game which almost costs the disciple his life. This play used ironic humour as a powerful resource to uncover the absurdities of India’s social and political systems: political corruption, exploitation and historical manipulation. On the second day, two plays AAJIR (Bengali play) and Ek Shaam Premchand Ke Naam (Hindi play) were showcased. AAJIR (Bengali play) used the richness and variety of song and dance forms of Telangana like Chata, Puli, and Botukamma.
